Well the whole hitting women thing is a bit misleading and not as clear cut as many would think, given how many women act in today's society.  I've seen girls actually go up and start punching a guy in the face.  They were the aggressor and it was an actual punch, and the girls weren't exactly small either.  So if the girl had done that to Mixon, or anyone else, she deserves to get popped.  Act like a man, get treated like one.  I don't care if she has a weapon or not.  Not all men are very large, strong, aggressive, fighters, etc.  Not all women are weak, passive, docile, etc.  Men actually do get abused by their wives even.  (Would never be me since I'll outweigh any girl I'd marry by ~100 lbs unless I lose a LOT of weight)

Let me make this very clear, I have never hit a woman and would never want to be anywhere near the type of girl I was referring to before.  But if a man is really attacked, it shouldn't matter if it's a woman or not.  Or if his wife and kids are attacked, same thing.  I'm big enough that I think 99% of the girls out there I wouldn't have to punch to neutralize, but there's always that 1%, and if they hurt my family they'd deserve whatever they get.

I would definitely agree if there is a self-defense component. Also men are victims too. I have seen that side as well. As stated above not all men are large, strong or aggressive and not all women are weak, passive or docile. And if a man is attacked gender shouldn't matter. But I guess I am baffled about the wife, daughter argument in regard to domestic violence or rape. Does making it personal reinforce the connection or is it about bringing out the protective instinct? Didn't mean to hijack the thread, just thinking out loud. Thanks for sharing your perspectives.

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.-Bruce Lee

Did Mixon have a Father in the home?

Yeah, that's all true. My point was, he's gonna own what he did as a young man, and it's harsher judgement than those who proceeded him. What you describe is the system that has produced the players I referred to. From everything I have read about Mixon, he has shown it was a one time break down in judgement. But at this time , as a fan of the Vikes, I don't want the sideshow drama drafting him would enable.

I don't like sideshows either but I think it would be short lived if he just once again faces the firing squad early on.  I want a winner and Mixon in many draft classes-maybe even this one could be the top rated top 10 RB.  I think there is a legit chance he can be a Bell, Elliot, David Jonson type back, one that can be effective even dangerous on any down.  That type of back will make the OL and QB's job that much easier and could make the offense a complete unit at the skill positions.

What people have to ask themselves is, if he can be a difference maker on this team are you willing to put up with the initial scrutiny that will come with the pick and willing to look at it as a lost bet if he fails or does something to get cut.  I'd pick him at 48 and be willing to take the risk that it could be a busted pick.  I'd be ok with it because I think he is that much of a value at 48-I consider him a top 10 talent in almost any draft.

I know its a stretch and Randy's circumstances were different (as were his transgressions) but I'll bet there was a 100,000 threads like this out there the winter/spring before the draft of 98...

Short lived like Ontario Smith.  Just don't wanna see this team with distraction like that.

I really don't see how you can compare him knocking a chick out to Adrian Parenting his child like it was the 80s.

If the Vikings were to draft him, I would hope he is able to become a good role model. I know the NFL isn't made up of choir boys, but it's alot easier to get behind the good ones.

Well, the young man has been able to stay out of trouble for 3 years since this incident.  He was suspended for a year and got 100 hours of community service and had to undergo counseling.

http://www.usatoday....video/95715974/

Mixon entered an Alford plea at the time, acknowledging there was likely enough evidence to convict him of misdemeanor assault while still asserting his innocence. He did not serve jail time and was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and undergo counseling.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the courts decision on his punishment.  If the courts decided that was enough then people need to complain to their lawmakers.

In my mind, he has served out his punishment.  He likely will end up paying the young woman a few hundred thousand bucks too.  That is enough!

He could have left Oklahoma but stayed and had to face the music from other students that hated what he did too.  He persevered and has not had any other incidents besides ripping up a parking ticket once.

The media can get on their high horse and criticize the Vikings all they want.  I would support them drafting Mixon if they feel he is the best back for them.  After letting AP stay on the team then there is no standard.

Lawrence Phillips anyone...

Mixon is better than him. I wouldn't put him in the same category either

I think it is making people relate to it and it triggers the response of thinking about it happening to their daughter.  I'm single and have no kids, and I don't require that extra motivation.  Some might though.  I don't quite understand the reasoning there either to be honest.

Doesn't matter what they do there will be diatractions, the media thrives on those type of issues and the 50+ 22-38 year old millionaire athletes are going to do stupid shit on occasion. They could pick Calvin Cook, Fournette, Bolles, etc and end up with an embarrassing distraction-that risk is always there.
