Bezerker88's Babblings - How did BRob do against the Jets?
By VikeFans.com Member Bezerker88
I recorded the first quarter and the OT session. I wanted to take a look at BRob's play this week. I don't think I got any of the plays where he was tackled to the ground and no flag but I did get two where it's clear he is being held. The game was not the national broadcast game so my local CBS station was showing it... They are not in HD on my cable provider yet. So the recording is blurry. I really wasn't that interested in recording the game... I wanted to watch it. So I missed some plays.
1st Qtr
1st and 10. One on one blocking. Rushes the QB. Smith throws and Hodges makes it a Pick 6. SWEET!
2nd Series.
Missed this play.
2nd and 8. One on one blocking. Held as runner goes by… no flag. Not very often does a D lineman's left arm have a mind of it's own but that's what the refs must have thought. Brian's arm just lunged out to stop the runner and the rest of him stayed engaged with his blocker…. by choice,,, because he wasn't held at all …..
3rd and 7. Chipped by the TE.. The guard and Tackle are engaged with Joseph and he is pushing them back. Brob cuts inside behind Joseph but the ball is gone before he gets to the QB.
1st and 10. Chipped by the TE and one arm glancing block by the tackle. BRob breaks thru those and chases Smith out of the pocket and into the sideline. No gain.
2nd and 10. One on one. busted play due to the center rolling the snap back to the QB.
3rd and 10. One on one blocking vs TE… with H. Smith taking the outside blitz position. BRob pushes past the blocker with ease. It looks like the blocker let the inside guy go and decided to try to block Smith. BRob flushes the QB right into the blitzing Smith. I suspect the TE will get an earful during the film room session.
Punt.
3rd Series.
1st and 10. One on one. Holds his edge during run play away from him.
2nd and 9. One on one. Stands his man up looks for the runner. Runner goes by in the wash. Good O line blocking.
3rd and 5. One on one. He starts up field than jumps in behind the DT again. He is part of the pressure on the QB that make him throw a terrible pass. But Captain gets a flag for PI.
Missed this play.
2nd and 6. One on one… Play is a run away from his side.
3rd and 6. One on one. Looks to be the same stunt where he runs up field but then he cuts inside behind the DT. But it's crowed in there and he heads back up field again. Gino has a clean pocket.
Touchdown Jets.
4th Series.
Missed this play.
2nd and 8. Can't tell if BRob is in or not. I think it's Wootten.
1st and 10. Not in.
2nd and 7. Wootten makes tackle on RB after holding the edge. He crashes down the LOS and get the RB as he goes thru the middle of our line. Stephen and Floyd are in.
3rd and 2. Wootten makes tackle on run to his side. He was unblocked.
Field Goal Jets.
I stopped recording until OT session.
Overtime.
Missed first play.
2nd and 5. One on one with chip help. Stands up his man and slides down the LOS holding the edge. Stretches out the play for little gain.
3rd and 3. Pre-snap both the tackle and TE are pointing at BRob. The one TE chips him as he goes into his pattern. The second TE engages BRob and with the tackle sliding over to help. Very obvious the Jets want to know where BRob is. Pass play is to the TE that chipped BRob at the snap.
1st and 10 @ Vikings 47. One on one blocking. Run is away. Stands man up and watches.
2nd and 10. One on One vs Tackle. Pushes his man straight back into the QB. The tackle pulls him past (no flag). QB steps up and Joseph gets a hand on him. QB takes off running because of the pressure.
3rd and 6. Smith and BRob are talking about coverage and assignments right up to the snap of the ball. It looks like Smith will fall back into coverage but at the last second he steps up to the line and blitzes. Smith and Captain(?), who is coming form the other side. both cause the QB rush his throw… it's low and Griff gets a paw on it.
Punt.
BRob is having a strong year without the "stats" to back it up. Kinda disappointing for the average NFL fan but there is more to being a great DE than the flashy numbers. He is the focus of the O line and still disrupts... and not from the blindside either. I do have a concern that on every 3rd down (and more than 5) we run the same stunt where we have Brian rush up field but then cut in behind the DT. I didn't record the whole game so I don't know if that's a true statement or not. But we ran it on 3 out of 4 times in the first quarter. Good teams will beat you if you are predictable. But we won so I'll leave it at that.
